Thesis Title: The Conspiracy of Free Trade

H.W. Brands

About

I recently earned my PhD in History from the University of Texas at Austin in fall 2011, specializing in the history of US foreign relations, the British Empire, and globalization. My current book manuscript examines how the ideological conflict between free traders and economic nationalists reshaped American party politics and imperial expansion in the mid to late nineteenth century. This ideological battle reverberated throughout the globe, and laid the foundations for today's global political economy.
